Kathy Yubin Xue was born on July 30, 2003, and left us on February 4, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of exceptional talent, unwavering courage, and boundless love. Her journey into the realms of mathematics and music began early, where she quickly distinguished herself as a prodigious talent.

In third grade, she achieved a perfect score in the Math Kangaroo International Competition, marking the start of her impressive math career. She continued to excel, earning multiple perfect scores in the American Mathematics Competitions (AMC) and participating in the USA Mathematical Olympiad Program (MOP) in 2019. Kathy's skills shone brightly in the USA Team Selection Test (TST) for the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) in 2020 and 2021.

In music, Kathy's passion for the piano was nurtured by world-class pianist Mrs. Dorothy Shi (杨镜钏). At nine, she began composing music under the mentorship of renowned professor, Alla Cohen from Berklee College of Music. Her talent earned her a finalist spot in the ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Awards in 2018 and nominations for the Tribeca New Music Young Composer Competition in 2017 and 2018.

Kathy attended MIT, where she majored in mathematics and was an integral part of the MIT Video Game Orchestra (VGO). She was not only a talented musician but also a leader who fostered creativity and camaraderie among her peers. Kathy continued to compose and arrange music, showcasing her versatility and passion.

Kathy's love for her family, especially her younger sister Audrey, was profound. In July 2022, she was diagnosed with DIPG, a rare and aggressive brain cancer. Despite the challenges, Kathy faced her battle with courage and resilience, inspiring everyone around her.

Kathy's passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who knew her. Her legacy lives on through the memories of her achievements, her vibrant spirit, and the impact she made on those around her.
